Comments about Marlin 1895G Guide Gun Centerfire Rifle:

This was my second year hunting and my 30-30 rifle scope got bumped so I had to use my dad's 45-70. I just turned 13 last week and I was nervous but when i shot a nub buck with it I barely felt any kick because i was focused on the deer and it definatly stops the deer on the spot.

Comments about Marlin 1895G Guide Gun Centerfire Rifle:

If you hunt where you very seldom take a shot at over 200 yds, this gun is for you. Commercial ammo is available to shoot everything from ground squirrels to Brown bear. Plus, the .45-70 is very easy to handload. Since my wife bought me an 1895GS (stainless steel version) almost 5 years ago, I haven't taken my .30-06 or .338 WM out of the gun safe. Short, powerful, accurate, lightweight, and fast shooting, are all adjectives that describe this little power house. I use it mainly to shoot whitetail deer near our cabin that sits in a clearing between two wet, boggy cedar swamps. It puts the deer down immediately "dead-right-there" (DRT) so we don't have to chase them into either swamp. It may not be the best "all-around" rifle, but it's at least tied for second place.

Comments about Marlin 1895G Guide Gun Centerfire Rifle:

Be ready to hold on when you let the hammer fall on this beast.

I've had mine for 3 years now and have never had any problem finding the game I shot.

The size and power of this rifle are perfect for hunting in thick cover. As little will knock the bullet off its path.

The only real issue I've had is with the rear sight. After the first year the buckhorn fell off.

      Great Rifle

      Best Uses

Comments about Marlin 1895G Guide Gun Centerfire Rifle:

The Marlin Guide Gun is a slick, fast handling hunting rifle. I am getting old and it's easy to put a scope on the Guide Gun to make up for my aging eyes. My rifle easily puts five shots into less than an inch at fifty yards. With light loads at normal factory velocities of around 1300 fps it is a pleasure to shot, but hot factory loads with heavy bullets it kicks like any angry mule. The 45-70 is capable of stopping anything you can find in North America. As an added bonus Marlin uses real walnut for their stocks.

      Great carry gun

      By Tracks

      from Wisconsin

      About Me Hunter

      Pros

      • A joy to carry
      • Fast handleing
      • Great Fire-Power
      • Perfect back-up gun
      • Well balanced

      Cons

      • Poor factory rear sight

      Best Uses

      • Bear Defence
      • Hunting

Comments about Marlin 1895G Guide Gun Centerfire Rifle:

This is a wonderful gun that will fit the needs of many wilderness hunters and fishermen. It has slim lines and is a joy to carry through the thickest cover. It also gives a measure of confidence when in bear country. My only complaint is the poor factory sights on this gun. But this is an easy fix. Also I found mounting a traditonal scope on this rifle runes the balance and ease of carry. Do yourself a favor and get a after market receiver sight.
