Light will hold its charge for up to 3 years - even after being stored in a drawer or glove box. Back-up battery has a 7-year shelf life. Waterproof casing will float if it falls overboard.         my favorite feature is the dual power source. When the solar energy gets weak, I click the button to regular battery. I leave the flashlight on a kitchen counter during the day so it can recharge the solar power.
