Considered by many to be the finest break-top design of its time, the Safety Police .32 was built during the first two decades of the 20th century by early Smith & Wesson competitor Hopkins & Allen. The last and certainly the best break-top design produced by Hopkins & Allen, the Safety Police utilizes a unique cylinder latch intended to keep the cylinder from coming off when the ejector is operated. To load the firearm, the front end of the latch is pressed in, which moves the hook out of engagement with the cylinder, allowing it to come off. During fire, the hammer does not rebound but rises up after each shot, allowing the firing pin to withdraw. This double-action-only revolver features a nickel finish, hard rubber grips, and fixed open sights. Its wood and bore are in very good condition and its metal is in good condition.
