Product Description
hr_1871_inc The H&R Ultra Slug guns have combined the heavy barrel concept of the Ultra Varmint rifle to achieve a level of accuracy previously unheard of in firearms below the 1,000 mark. The Ultra Slug guns incorporates the transfer bar safety system, mated to a heavy action and it is rifled for an extremely heavy barrel wall. This process creates the stiffest possible barrel, limiting barrel whip and shrinking group size. It is covered by the NEF lifetime no fault service plan.

Comments about H&R 1871 Inc H&R Ultra Slug Shotgun:

I have own one of these since they first came out! Though they are a little picky as to the type of slugs you shoot through them, They always work and work well. I have passed my original off to my Grandson, and bought the new lam. stock model for myself. This gun out shoots every other slug gun I seen on the range. COMMON MISTAKES, most folks make. #1. 3 in slug are a waste, you only gain (ave.) 30 40 fps. but increase recoil by 30% to 40%. #2. Use gun grease on the action. I have seen many break action shotguns ruined by dry actions (oil to prevent rust, grease to lube actions), 3. Properly attached a descent scope on this gun, use "locktight" the first time, and keep the scope power low!!! My old gun still has the original Bushnell Dusk to Dawn 1.5x4.5x32mm, I have rarely ever (except at the range) turned up the power to shoot slugs. You just dont need to! The range is to close while hunting Good Luck!!!

A friend recommended this gun to me,he was right, the accuracy can't be beat.It could use an upgrade in scope, but for the price, makes a great deer gun if you can't use a rifle.

It took me about 10-15 shots to zero in but once the gun was zeroed it shot nice groups. I had 2.5" group at 100 yards with Hornady SST 300g FTX

Comments about H&R 1871 Inc H&R Ultra Slug Shotgun:

I bought the new ultra lite slug hunter 20 ga. last week. Its not on the website so I'm picking on this gun, same thing but heavier. After getting the gun home I realized that the action wouldn't shut all the way. So I took it back to exchange it for another one. Gander treated me well, no issues with their service. I went to shoot the gun a couple days later and was pleased with how it shot, at first... I shot 4 different types/brands of sabots and was doing well until the end. The last ones I tried were hornady SST's. They were all over the place. I just thought it was the ammo till I got home and was looking at the gun and realized that the scope mount was so loose that I could wiggle the scope a quarter inch side to side. So, I had to take the scope off, lock-tite the screws, and get to go sight it in again. This gun has been more hassle than I bargained for. Very cheaply made, but shoot well. Just look it over good before you buy one and lock-tite the screws to the base before mounting your scope!

Yes you can shoot rifled slugs, but for increased accuracy a high quality sabot is the best. Saving a few bucks on slugs could cost you a buck of a lifetime.

          • A:

Sabots only. Rifled slugs will not be very accurate and you will get a lot of lead fouling in the barrel with rifled slugs
