Comments about H&R 1871 Inc H&R® Ultra Slug Shotgun:
needed a slug gun for deer and reg shotgun wasn't cutting it. didn't have the money to buy the big rigs when I found this gun, that was it. can drive tacks at 100 yds. its all the gun you will ever need and with the money I saved getting it ,I spent on a good scope. can't beat it.

Comments about H&R 1871 Inc H&R® Ultra Slug Shotgun:
I have a 20 gauge Ultra Slug Hunter Deluxe. It's very accurate!
At 200 yards I can shoot 4" groups. Last year I shot a large doe at 155 yards.
I've had mine 6 years and have shot lots of deer with it.
It's a heavy gun, but the accuracy makes up for it.
The only thing I don't really care for is that if i hunt in damp weather it starts to rust on the outside of the barrel right away.
It's a great gun though and I love it!
I've recommedd it to several of my friends and they like theirs too.

Comments about H&R 1871 Inc H&R® Ultra Slug Shotgun:
I wouldnt trade my H&R for any other slug gun on the market. Combined with the Nikon Slug Hunter with BDC retical scope and the Hornady SST Sabot Slugs, it is the most accurate slug gun I have ever owned. It is a little on the heavy side and I would like to have a little lighter trigger pull, but for the money, you can't beat it.

Comments about H&R 1871 Inc H&R® Ultra Slug Shotgun:
I coveted this gun the first time I read H&R's great "one shot" marketing ads. I used only Litefields initially and like others have said, holes inside of holes at 100 yards. What an accurate gun! When a friend gave me some of his other rounds, I found my slug hunter sent them flying with the same accuracy-and it didn't matter if they were 2 3/4 or 3 inch. I have shot 3 deer with this gun. One was a head shot at 75 yards. I never had any doubt of my ability with this gun. Incredible.
On the "negative" side, get in shape. Hauling this gun around will definitely build up your upper body strenth. But then again, it will feel very light compared to that big buck you'll find yourself dragging out of the woods . . .

This thing is great. The scope is average. Sighted in @ 50 then 80 yds. I could put the cross hairs right on the target. Very small groupings. I love this gun.

Comments about H&R 1871 Inc H&R® Ultra Slug Shotgun:
I purchased the 12 gauge ultra slug hunter at Gander Mountain[...]I purchased the gun with 4 boxes of shells (2 Hornady SST's and 2 boxes Remington Acu tips). I started at the 25 yard range and it was of 2 feet low and 2 feet to the right. After shooting 3 boxes zeroing it in, I moved to the 150 yard range and shot 5 within a 2 inch diameter. Awesome gun, but buy at any other store than Gander Mountain [...]

Comments about H&R 1871 Inc H&R® Ultra Slug Shotgun:
I will never own another slug gun. I bought this shotgun after my father-in-law recommended I check it out for the 2009 MI gun season. I bought an economical Barska scope and sighted it in at 100 yards. I shot 3 deer this year, two does and 1 buck. First doe was at @135 yards and dropped where she stood. The second doe was at 103 yards and she ended up making it about 200 yards before she dropped dead, but non-the-less the gun did its job. The buck was at around 50 yards and made it about 20 more before he dropped. I shoot Hornady SST's and would never use anything else. I tried Copper Solids, Acutips, and the Lightfields before trying the Hornady's and they group at 1" at 150....Amazing shotgun!
I did mention that it was a bit heavy....Which is true, so I recommend using shooting sticks to help curb the effect of a bouncing gun when aiming. My father in law uses the 20 and doesnt need shooting sticks, but I do with my 12. The weight in no way effects my support for the H&R. It truely is a great gun.

Comments about H&R 1871 Inc H&R® Ultra Slug Shotgun:
I purchased this gun on a buddies word saying they were good instead of making my 870 wingmaster my deer gun. that was the best decision I have ever made. I put a tasco red dot sight and use Hornady SST Shotgun Slugs. Took it out last year had it sighted in with 5 shots in a 1 inch group at 80 yds. First day of IL deer season shot 2 in about 4 hrs with one shot each one was 127 yds out other was about 70 yds out droped both where they stood. This year shot once and droped a nice buck from 30 yds and he didnt go more thean 10 yds from where I shot him. I will never use another Shotgun for deer hunting in my life and if I can I wont change slugs either.

Q:
Can this gun also be used with shot shells as well as slugs? I need to make sure it can be used for both types.Asked on 11/30/2009 by ezraa123 from Michigan2 answers
A:
The Ultra Slug Gun has a rifled barrel and is specifically designed to work with slugs. If you are looking to shoot slugs and shot shells, a smooth bore is recommended.
Having fired shot shell ammunition through a rifled barrel, I experienced the following: a) the shot spread is inconsistent and so wide spread to be almost unusable, and b) heavy leading of the bore.Answered on 12/27/2009 by Uncle Dave from Chicago, ILA:
this particular gun is for slugs and slugs only it has a rifled barrel and shot would just destroy everything that makes it the great deer gun it is.Answered on 12/25/2009 by mp_usmc_k9 from Knox Co. IL
