The safety mechanism was originally loose; Gander Mountain replaced it & said it was tested. However, it still misfires every 2nd or 3rd shot(ie, dents the shell, but not enough force to fire the slug). I will try to have a gunsmith remove the safety completely.

Comments about H&R 1871 Inc H&R® Ultra Slug Hunter Single-Shot 12-Gauge Shotgun:
I bought this gun on sale at Gander Mountain, after my lease went shotgun only. When I got it home I slapped on a Nikon Slughunter and hit the range. A few boxes of Hornady SST later, and I was on paper and punching clover-leaf groups at 60 yards.
It has some recoil (and mine is in 20 gauge), but I will take that trade for how light it is to carry in the field. Next week is gun season down here, and I am looking forward to trying it out on moving targets.

Comments about H&R 1871 Inc H&R® Ultra Slug Hunter Single-Shot 12-Gauge Shotgun:
12 gauge Gun weighed 5.50 pounds. Too light, kicked like a mule. Scope even moved in the mounts. Get heavy model that weights 9 pounds in 20 gauge. Traded gun in within a week. Brought a savage M220 love it!

Comments about H&R 1871 Inc H&R® Ultra Slug Hunter Single-Shot 12-Gauge Shotgun:
This product will be used for Deer hunting in lower Michigan, with the addition of a scope and gun strap the H&R is a lethal package for targets at close range out to almost 200 yards. An awesome package for the woods or farm fields.

Comments about H&R 1871 Inc H&R® Ultra Slug Hunter Single-Shot 12-Gauge Shotgun:
Try several brands of slugs at the range. Mine did the best with KO slugs, and not sabots. I dropped a 220 pound 10 point at 75 yards. This gun rocks.

Q:
can i shoot Winchester Super-X 12 Ga. Rifled Slugs through this firearmAsked on 7/3/2012 by trapper from sullivan in1 answer
A:
Yes, it will shoot them, but I wouldn't recommend those slugs for this gun. Rifled slugs work better in smooth-barrel shotguns. The Ultra Slug Hunter is better suited to sabot slugs, such as Hornady SST. With sabot slugs, you will enjoy more accuracy and less fouling.Answered on 10/23/2012 by Mike the Pastor from Orlando, FL
Q:
How long is the gun?Asked on 9/12/2010 by Caleb from Charleston,WV0 answers
Q:
what is the reasonable range to expect out of this rifle please?Asked on 5/8/2010 by kevin from north texas3 answers
A:
We wouldn't recommend attempting over a 50 yard shot. Even a shot of that range will require practice and increase your chances for failure. This will be the case with any shotgun.Answered on 5/10/2010 by Charlie from Gander TechA:
I HAVE BEENUSING ONE FOR SEVEN YEARS.TWO INCH GROUPS @ 100 YDS. IS NO PROBLEM.A FRIEND TOOK A BUCK @137 YDS. USE LIGHTFIELD SABOT SLUGS. THIS IS THE MOST ACCURATE SLUG GUN OUT THERE BAR NONE!Answered on 3/18/2012 by PAULER from HARTLY,DE.A:
I have had my gun for two years and it shoots great at up to 100 yards. i would recomend a scope if you plan on doing any good though.Answered on 5/4/2012 by buckkiller from Carmi, IL
Q:
How much is the total weight of the gun? What size shell is it chambered for? Is the barrel rifled?Asked on 4/6/2010 by Badger from Gilman, wi1 answer
A:
the barrel is rifled it weighs about 14 lbs I use 2 3/4" shells but you can use 3" alsoAnswered on 7/23/2010 by Andrew from monroe NY
Q:
Does this gun have the heavy barrel or is it just a standard 12ga. barrel?Asked on 3/16/2010 by JD from Saginaw, Mi2 answers
A:
Not sure who answered the question before me but the barrel is a heavy barrel. Twice as thick as your normal barrel. Prevents flex on discharge which is why it has the accurracy of a rifle with the proper ammo.Answered on 10/1/2012 by The chamealon from Bluffton, INA:
It is not the heavy barrel.Answered on 9/24/2010 by Curt from Michigan
