    I bought this rifle a few years ago and I have fired many rounds throgh it. It is very accurate and powerful the action is quite strong as some custom ammo manufatures have loads that are used even on elephant and they recommend this gun for those loads I have fired these loads in mine and they are awesome powerful and accurate 500gr but they are very heavy recoiling. I only use them for showing off they are more than I like to subject my shoulder to very often.The 300gr factory load is perfect for deer or small bear for Elk I like the 400gr speer loaded hot about 1700FPS it will take anything in North America.I use lite hand loads for target and small game I shoot a lot so I reload and cast my own bullets I have a hollow point mould 330 gr thats perfect for just about anything.. lots of fun!

    Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

        No the 45-70 is not an elephant gun but loaded with a 500 gr bullet hot loaded It can be used for that in a pinch with a modern strong rifle not a 1873 springfield The 30-06 is a great powerful hunting rifle but it is not an elephant gun either but people have certainly taken elephant with it.

        There are 4 12 gauge barrels that fit Handi Rifles. They can only be fitted by H&R at the factory.
