Comments about Glock 22 Handgun:
For years, I didn't want any "plastic guns"; too much appreciation for fine craftsmanship in metal. However, there was always that recurring thought of "how can all those police officers be wrong?" With Gander's "$100 Off Any Glock In Stock" last fall, and a new very strong recommendation from a police firearms instructor acquaintance, I "gave in". What a surprise--I could not be more pleased--it immediately became the most "natural" pistol I own--developed very high confidence in rapid, accurate shooting within a couple of hundred rounds. Due to the design, it comes right back on target for the next shot--the distance from the axis of the recoil (in line with the barrel) is "closer down" to your strong hand than any other pistol I've held, causing recoil to be more "straight back" (less rise)than other pistols. (My only negative--I put a band-aid on the first joint of my thumb [nearest the hand] to keep the top of the grip just below the slide from eating the skin after a couple of hundred rounds of .40 S&W.) And, it is absolutely not too large to disappear under a light jacket with an in-waistband holster. The Glock Safe Action design is virtually foolproof should the unhoped-for need for quick action arise. And, for a hundred bucks for a barrel, plus a couple of Glock 17 magazines, you can convert it to 9mm in about 15-20 seconds and drastically cut the cost of ammo, yet still be practicing with the gun you carry. Never thought an old dog would say it, but this has become my favorite pistol. Highly recommended. NOTE: DO NOT shoot unjacketed lead bullets in this gun--Google "Glock kaboom" to see why. However, if you must reload with lead bullets, this is easily solved by adding an after-market (non-Glock) barrel. Glock uses an unusual rifling method that apparently tends to collect lead. Never an issue with jacketed bullets.
