Comments about Gander Mountain™ Meat Slicer:
First unit locked up after three boneless steak cuts. On the plus, GM replaced it without question. If your going to use it for light work, it's a great unit, not enough HP for game processing.

Comments about Gander Mountain™ Meat Slicer:
Take your time slicing and it works great! The fuse once blew when I tried to operate the machine when it was very cold. I had stored it in my unheated garage during below-freezing temperatures. The operating manual did not show how to replace the fuse, but the process wasn't too difficult. The base must be removed (screws are underneath) to gain access to the electrical compartment cover. I replaced the 1-amp fuse with a 1-amp "slow blow" type fuse, which provides sufficient protection. The meat slicer has worked flawlessly ever since. I do recommend storing it indoors.

Comments about Gander Mountain™ Meat Slicer:
Just received this as a Christmas gift from my wife, put it together and plugged it in to test. All that happened when switched on was smoke!!!! This piece of junk didn't even get used!! So much for a happy wife at Christmas!! After reading other reviews it seems to be a on going problem. Now comes the hassle of dealing with customer service for a refund so a decent slicer can be bought.

Q:
are the gears plastic and what is the blade made fromAsked on 8/26/2009 by the chicken man from west winfield, ny1 answer
A:
The gearing is plastic as well as the retaining bolt. The gears are well lubricated in white lithium grease. The blade is stainless steel. Gander Mountain has replecement blades in store stock. The blade is not flat, it's designed with a cup. As I sliced a top sirloin roast the unit had plenty of power and torque, there was no bogging down whatsoever. The unit also has an on switch which can double with a pulsating action. The unit has variable drive, so the blade speed can be adjusted. I like this better than the Chef's Choice model I have where the on/off is controlled by a pressure panel you engage using your thumb located behind the slide tray. Being right-handed I found myself applying too much pressure into the blade on the the other model. This may have contributed to the problems I experienced with the blade on that unit. This was not so however with the Gander Mountain unit. I was able to slice with smooth uniform strokes. For home food prep I highly recommend this model.Answered on 11/28/2009 by Butch from Lewiston, NY
