Comments about Gamo USA Whisper Air Rifle with Noise Dampener:

Hurtle #1: best advice about scope is to MOUNT IT SECURELY where it;s easy to view, then back the adjustment screws all the way out, then begin to zero @ indoor range, first at short distance, then farther out. Everytime you adjust the screws, tap the scope or barrel so internal springs will adjust for the next shot.

Hurtle #2: Gamo high prices would suggest high quality ammo - too many flanges & other deformaties found, even on their best. Best for accuracy, velocity, perhaps everything = Raptor Gold (highest priced but will save back on "hits"). Next best = PBA Armor, which trades a bit of accuracy for higher penetration. Changing ammo mean another zero-in session.

Quiet as advertised, although shooter might not think so from his position at rear.

30# easy to pump - wish we had this in old days but those multi-pumps did develop pecs

Open sights are amazing if you are not a scope fan; haven't found a better scope @ reasonable price for such a rifle yet.

Trigger not quite as advertised but slightly adjustable ... and manageable; suggest using second finger tip & pull straight back to shoulder w/o jerking.

All the boxes looked molested, so before purchase, check contents. At least leave with hex keys, Raptor pellets that come with.

Buy plenty of Raptors, as you may not find these stocked anywhere else.

Comments about Gamo USA Whisper Air Rifle with Noise Dampener:

The scope is cheap, therefore, begin zeroing by backing out the elevation/windage screws, tapping scope while repositioning & tightening its lugs to rifle frame. Thereafter, you should be able to shoot out a dime-size bullseye @ 45' easy. However, if CHANGING AMMO OR DISTANCE from that used in zeroing, zero process may begin anew. Since this a real issue, one can either accept scope as a gift or upgrade scope on day one. Do without - nifty, bright red/green open sights should be foolproof.

The special ammo ROCKET & ARMOR reach speeds that plow through a dead pine upper trunk & out the other side(topping a tall dead tree even pole saws can't reach) instead of bouncing off (e.g. ,22 pellet CO2) or getting lodged in the wood (e.g. .177 air multi-pump).

Noise reduction claims seem ironic in the face of sonic speed & power claims but only the shooter hears any real noise. Side & frontal noise is subdued and once inside behind glass gunshots directly outside become less than that of a pencil drumming a tabletop.

Many versions of this Whisper. This review is of Gamo's Whisper Break Barrel W/39x40WR. Gander Mountain's price might only be beaten by your local gunshop (perhaps 10%) but Gander has ALL the ammo choices & targets support needed for this sport others do NOT.

Issues raised about cocking should be none, as I was raised with a multi-pump air rifle that will build pecs. If one pump cocking is too hard, then you should not be shooting this rifle until older, bigger, stronger anyway.

Controversy over trigger pull and screwdriver adjustment: yes, for safety's sake the out of the box pull is a bit long and certainly NOT 3.5#/whatever specs claim - much more. Even full adjustment away from this does not make this a sniper quality trigger pull. My suggestion is to change trigger finger to finger #2 and only use tip of finger to improve hits.

The worse experience was the ammo quality - not matter the higher costs, some of which was so disformed obviously you could have issues with neighbors, as we saw target results after zeroing in the black, random hits flying off to edge of paper ... and beyond. Several pellets would not even fit into the breech when loaded.

Hopefully, when the tree is topped & falls, I may update/post this fact here.

Comments about Gamo USA Whisper Air Rifle with Noise Dampener:

The gun is very acurate if your trigger finger is perfect. The so called adjustable trigger, has no tools to adjust it, and directions to do so are poor at best. If you want a gun to shoot [...], find a gun with a better trigger! My crossman 760 trigger is as good as this one, and cost $200 less!
