I was looking for a high-performance flashlight for my wife for those times when she needs to light somebody up (dark parking lot in a bad part of town where she works) as well as just a useful light for general tasks. This light fills that bill - with some quirks.

For security use, the light comes on strong every time. It is also bright enough to temporarly blind someone even in daylight. The crenellated bezel is marginal, certainly not up to the best in class, but then this unit cost 25% of the cost of the best in class. Overall it is still a good value realizing its limitations.

For general use as a flashlight the light works well - when it turns on. Sometimes the light goes from high beam to off. It is supposed to cycle through the low beam and SOS on the way to off. When it does not work as it should, turning it on high then to low seems to work. I don't view this as a big deal because if we need the low light, we have time to get it and we are not in an emergency situation.

SOS - this could be a useful feature, but I don't really see the need for it. It has the same quirks noted above in the general use section.

All in all, this light does what we ask it to do and at a fraction (1/4) of the cost of a Surefire E2DL which it most closely resembles.

I got this light in December 09. I used it several camping trips and around the house. In July '10, it stopped working. I tried new batteries, cleaning out the circuit board and checking the LED light. It won't turn on! Gander Mountain has refused to stand behind their defective product! If you are going to buy a high dollar flashlight, go somewhere that stands behind their product and will last more than 6 months!

Comments about GSX 220 Lumen Handheld LED Flashlight:

I have nothing but excellent things to say about this flashlight! I call it my good luck light.I love the brightness of it and the durability. I dropped it several times and it still works fine.I have actually lost the flashlight twice found it both times, the first time was just a general lose & find situation. The second time I was out night fishing in brackish water and dropped it over the side of the boat I marked the spot where I dropped it came back 2 days later on low tide found the light, dried it off, turned it on it worked great no water inside, & no corrosion, this is the best light ever!

The GanderMTN 125 LED Handheld Flashlight Does not come with a holster, the 220 LED doesnt either, they come with a carry strap,I had no spot to reveiw the 125 LED so I did it here on the 220 Lumen spot, they both do have focus control from flood to spot,I dont own the 220 Lumen, the 125 Lumen has an unbelievable beam and uses only 1 AA as opposed to other powerful lights like this one useing the CR123 which are expensive, the GanderMTN 125 Lumen LED Handheld Flashlight is my 1st choice.

1)it will NOT come with a holster
2)the beam as described in the question below is not adjustable but it is well balanced.

            • A:

No it does not. You will probably find that most newer LED flashlights do not focus, but the beam is well balanced already, with a central "hot spot" about 2 ft. in diameter at 5 yards (per my estimation).

            • A:

On low level, it is considerably brighter than my 90 lumen Streamlight. So, I'd guess 125 to 150 lumens on low. Hope this helps.
