The metal detector features coin-depth detection to approximately 5" and discrimination control to eliminate iron and most other unwanted items.           I bought this item as a gift for my nephews age 10 and 8. The item was defective right out of the box. They exchanged it for another that works great for their needs, which are treasure hunting in their back yard and at the beach.
