This tent did work well. I used for my trip to the Pictured Rocks on Lake Superior, the Manitee River trail, and casual camping. The drawbacks to this particular tent is that it is extremely cramped. I'm 6'4" and it was quite difficult to position yourself and getting in and out of the tent. The quick release zipper on the tent roof was quite nice.
What really disappointed me with this tent is that Eureka does NOT make replacement poles for this tent. The front pole snapped on me while in the middle of a hike trip, which just lead to a miserable experience.
This tent did a good job of what was required of it. I wish Eureka would have the foresight to make replacement poles, but I guess that infringes on their ability to make a bigger profit of us suckers.

Comments about Eureka! Solitaire Tent:
I really like the tent itself, I am a big guy and I fit comfortably inside with my pack and boots fitting into the vestibule. Love the top entry for nights when the rainfly isn't required. Very light for the price and easy to pack. The downside is the poles. First time out the small one (foot end) broke clean in the connecting tube, so I lost an inch of it. Second time out, another inch. I called eureka and they sent me a replacement set. I requested that the replacements be made of aluminum but was told that was not an option. Third time out, with the new poles, the foot hoop broke again, this time it splintered near the middle of the section tearing into the tent. I called Eureka again and set up an R/A in which they agreed to replace the entire tent. When I got the replacement tent I immediately took the poles out, measured them, and had aluminum ones made. I have had no trouble since. I camp at minimum one weekend a month, I have been using the tent for over 2 years. Overall its a good tent but I would absolutely urge you to look into aluminum poles, they are lighter anyway.

Comments about Eureka! Solitaire Tent:
I got this tent intending to use it in Arizona for 2 weeks. I am glad i tried it out closer to home! I set up the tent for the FIRST time at a campsite, put my pack in it, and me and my doughter went for a short hike. By the time I got back, BOTH poles had snapped at the apex of the roof of the tent! My kid's $10 pop-tent was sturdier! I know how to set up one-man tents- I hiked for 13 days around Isle Royal and the ent I had then never failed me. I have never even seen a tent pole snap. There were no other campers there, either, so no one came by and just broke it. Terrible.

Comments about Eureka! Solitaire Tent:
Nothing worse then a manifacture lying to us.This tent does not weigh 2 lbs 10 oz it is more like 3 lbs 6 oz. I only picked this tent because it was supposed to be lighter then the one man North Face tent. Im taking this back right now and getting the north face that will hold up better.

This tent is one of the best. Eagle Scout and US Marine tested. The tent took about 5 miniutes to setup the first time out of the box. I have experieced extreme rainfall while using this tent and it has held strong.

Q:
is this a free standing tent?Asked on 7/11/2010 by kent from tucson, az2 answers
A:
yesAnswered on 4/2/2011 by fred from homeA:
This is not a free standing tent, it needs at least 4 pegs to stand. I have had this tent for a year and really like it but you do need to peg it out.Answered on 3/13/2012 by ridingpa from Enola, PA
Q:
What is the floor material for this tent? Does it have a built-in footprint or does it have a fabric floor?Asked on 5/7/2010 by Goopasaurus Rex from Germantown, WI1 answer
A:
It has a waterproof floor but it is thin, I use a tarp under it to protect it from rocks and stuff. A 6x8 tarp folded in half works perfect for a ground cloth.Answered on 3/13/2012 by ridingpa from Enola, PA
Q:
From photo (as a novice camper) it is hard to discern how to enter this tent. Through the door or through the top with the zipper. Looking for a backpacking tent for my grandson to use on his outings with a scout troop in GA. Is there room for his backpack in there? He is a big boy at 5'6", 140 #, and only 13.Asked on 4/13/2010 by Lynn from Florida1 answer
A:

Q:
How wide is the floor? I'm a big guy with wide shoulders.Asked on 3/15/2010 by Tom from Oviedo, FL1 answer
A:
The floor is 32 inches wide. I am 6'2" and weigh 210 lbs with pretty wide shoulders too. I fit in this tent easily and actually have enough room to roll over.Answered on 4/11/2010 by Matty K from Englewood, TN
Q:
Does this also have a rain fly?Asked on 3/1/2010 by Florida_Camper from Melbourne, Florida1 answer
A:
They show it set up and not set up in the photographs. Its the yellow top, you can roll it back and tuck it in the bridge to remove it.Answered on 4/5/2010 by Indiana_Camper from Evansville, IN
