The Lee-Enfield bolt-action, magazine-fed, repeating rifle was the main firearm used by the military forces of the British Empire and Commonwealth during the first half of the 20th century. The MK III is chambered for high-powered .303 British ammunition. It was given a simplified rear sight arrangement compared to its predecessors and a fixed mounted sliding charger guide. Like the other SMLE rifles, the Mark III has a shortened magazine and a unique blunt nose design with only the bayonet boss protruding a small fraction of an inch beyond the nosecap. The SMLE also incorporates a magazine cut-off that was not found on later models. This rifle features a shrouded blade front sight, a hooded adjustable rear sight, and a 2-position thumb safety. Its wood is in fair condition and its metal and bore are in good condition.
