A derivative of the Lee-Enfield bolt-action No. 4 Mk 1, the Jungle Carbine was designed not for as a shortened, lightened version of the No.4 rifle for British airborne forces in World War II. The rifle gained its nickname when used heavily during the so-called Malayan Emergency shortly after the war. When constructing the Jungle Carbine, a number of lightening cuts were made to the receiver body and the barrel, the bolt knob drilled out, woodwork cut down to reduce weight. Other new features like a flash suppressor and a rubber buttpad to help absorb the increased recoil were included as well. This rifle features a post front sight with an adjustable rear sight and a 2-position safety. Its wood is in fair condition and its metal and bore are in good condition.
