    This cleat is a good cleat for the money. It feels study and has a solid weight to it. It does not include hardware so you will need to purchase your own from a boating store such as West Marine or others. I used a 5/8 inch lag bolt with a hex nut and washer to attach at a boat dock.

    The one downside of this cleat is because the of the galvanized coating (which makes it rough and uneven) the screw holes are not perfectly round and you may be forced to use a smaller diameter screw to fit into the not so perfectly round hole. If it was perfectly round I could have used a larger diameter screw. It turned out not to be a big issue but I would bring the cleat with you to the hardware store and to test the screw fit before purchasing the lag bolt.

    As the picture shows its not the most elegant looking cleat such as a chrome or stainless steel cleat but those are significantly higher cost and the price of this one makes it a good value and works fine. Lastly, the rough galvanized coating may slowly wear away at your dock lines over time. If this is a huge issue for you you can always smooth them down with sandpaper or a rotary tool like a dremel.

            Dock cleats are usually affixed to wooden docks with lag screws. The way this item is casted with square bolt holes on the top, there is no way to screw them to a wooden dock.
