Q:I want to replace my styrofoam floatation under my boat dock with the Dockmates. Do I need to order the same size or is there a difference in their weight capacities?.Asked on 7/30/2012 by Bob from Arlington, TX
A:We do not know what you have but there could be a difference in the buoyancy ratings. For this reason you need to estimate the weight of your dock's wood, hardware, etc and make sure that you have enough buoyancy to float it.Answered on 11/7/2012 by Justin M. from Overton's
Q:How do I know the best size float drum needed for the size of my dock?Asked on 1/6/2011 by Roll Tide Roger from Jackson's Gap, AL
A:You can use whatever size that you need. You can pick out a float drum based on the amount of weight of your docks wood and hardware. Estimate the weight of all the wood and dock hardware. Then take the buoyancy rating and divide it by two to get half of the buoyancy rating. Then use the following calculation. Weight of dock and hardware divided by half of the buoyancy rating. For example 87024 has a buoyancy rating of 374lbs. meaning it takes 374lbs to sink the float, but you want about half of the float out of the water. So half of 374 is 187. If your dock weighs 561lbs then 561 divided by 187 is 3. So it will take three of item 87024 to float a 561lbs dock.Answered on 1/21/2011 by Justin from Overton's
