Product Description
dockmate Dockmate Mooring Whips protect your boat or watercraft from damage caused by wind or high wake. These whips provide a "safety zone" between dock and boat with a unique "spring action" that keeps your boat away from the dock. The large-diameter solid fiberglass rods are wrapped with cross-wound layers of fiber for superior strength and flexibility. The durable, solid, cast-aluminum base has a molded-in cleat and ring to easily fasten your lines. A functional roller tip on the whip in addition to a unique tensioner allow easy one-hand operation. All Dockmate Mooring Whips come as a pair with all necessary lines and hardware to complete installation. Note that some docking conditions may be too rough for this type of system. 3-year warranty.

I don't think I have ever written a negative product review, but I felt compelled to warn potential buyers about these dock whips. The whips worked fine holding my 15' ski boat the first year. However, the adhesive holding the base and roller tip failed on both whips allowing the fiberglass poles to twist in their bases. When the assembly failed this week my boat was repeatedly bashed against my dock in a storm damaging both my boat and the whips.

I had previously drilled a small hole in the base for the set screw to prevent the whip from turning in its base. Now I have had to install small set screws to prevent the pole from twisting in the fiberglass base of the whip and the tip from twisting on the pole. Also, the roller tip is so narrow that the line(which could use another 12") prematurely wears.

I don't know how other companies' mooring whips are designed and constructed, but it is obvious to me why these are the cheapest. Drilling 3 small holes and installing two screws dramatically improve the quality of these whips. Too bad Dockmate has cut the corners on these "economy" whips.

If you are tempted to purchase these cheap whips, take the time to reinforce them or the money you saved (and then some) may go to repairing your boat.

Comments about Dockmate Economy Mooring Whips, 8:

We live on a waterfront lot in a lake community and have a lot of boating and skiing traffic. Being on the windward side of the lake, the water can be rough occasionally. This keeps my Hobie PA14, in the water safely and it looks good from the lake. And as usual, Overton's delivery and service was perfect.

This product is great! We weren't sure how we were going dock our wave runners, but your mooring whips work very well. It keeps our runners from rubbing against the dock and still gives us plenty of room to move around. The sales service when ordering was excellent. We had to call several times during the order process, but your reps were very patient and friendly. Sometimes we didn't always get the same person, but everyone was on the same page and we got our order in the time they said it would arrive. We are very happy and pleased with your product. Thank you.

Comments about Dockmate Economy Mooring Whips, 8:

Using this for a small pedal pontoon (750 lbs) and have no regrets. It holds the boat in place on the river where some boats toss 2 foot wakes. Instructions were simple and clear as I have never used whips before. Only complaint I have was that the water at my home is about 4 feet below my dock so I had to purchase new rope because I was bending the whips, which the instructions say is a no-no. 100' of rope cost me [$] and I have spare rope if one frays down the road.

Comments about Dockmate Economy Mooring Whips, 8:

Very easy to set up, not many parts to it so, I had it up in approx. 30 mins. Works excellent for our wave runner which is a 13' , 4 person craft and the "Whips" keep the craft away from the dock even during rough waters. When we decide to get a pontoon boat we are most definitely buying the Whip system for the larger boat. Very impressed with this concept...

I cannot think of any complaints or negative feedback because there aren't any. To answer the question below: We have already recommended this product to a friend.

Yes. They can handle changing tides just make sure you set your tie-off lines up accordling. Also remember that some docking conditions are tough rough for a whip type mooring system.
