Comments about Danner Instigator GTX 6" Outdoor Boot, 200g Thinsulate Ultra,56 oz.:
This is my first pair of Danner boots, and with these I also bought a pair of Danner Pronghorn hunting boots. Being very pickey about quality I must say that both pairs of these Danner boots are very well made. I have a narrow size 13 foot and the Instigator size 13 medium width boots fit very nicely. They feel like a very stable sure footed boot and are fairly light as compared to most boots like this. At first they are a bit stiff and will need some break in time as I expected. There is enough room in the toe box to wiggle my toes freely which is important to me and there are no pressure points throughout my foot. Very good support in the heel as well. The removable insole was definately not up to my standards for an expensive boot of this quality, but they will be replaced with better insoles as I usually end up doing will all my shoes and boots. They are warm enough for wearing in the winter and will be warm enough for early to mid season big game hunting here in the north east. I buy only Gore Tex for waterproof shoes because all the Gore Tex boots I've ever owned have never leaked so I expect the same from these. The sole is well made and has a good traction pattern. How they hold up will remain to be seen but they feel like they should hold up to years of normal wear in the outdoors. The black scuff guard on the toe of this boot is kind of overkill going over the whole toe of the boot but it does seem to be very scuff resistant. Overall they seem to be very well made boots and are comfortable after they break in. I had no real issues during the break in period. I like the speed laces and the laces themselves are very strong and thick but are a bit long for the boots. With the initial feel and build of these boots I suspect that they will last many years. My only issue with these boots is that they are made in China! Had I known I likely would have kept looking. I thought Danner was an American company.... We need to start supporting our own country.
