I've now had these boots for 13 months and can say they are among the best currently available (for this style/size/weight). You can certainly tell that you have something of genuine quality if owning a pair of these for yourself.

Before purchasing, I sought out all the reviews from many sources and pretty much everything has proven to be true. Excellent durable boots from a quality American source. Many people commented that you don't have to break these in. My take on this, is that no you don't have to break them in, relative to getting blisters. I never got blisters with these. I'd say that like any leather boots, yes you have to break these in. Sure you can pull them out of the box, and hike 20 miles without problem, but those 20 miles will likely go smoother if you get a some every-day-walking done with them first.

In the past year, I would say that I have used them moderately. I wore them nearly every day from January through April. I probably wore them a handful of days during the warmer months and put them back on daily during September and October.

In late October, I went mule deer hunting in the Rockies and put a good 30 or so miles of upland stalking in a long weekend. About a month later (still wearing them daily).I went on a 21 mile hike in and near the Grand Canyon over a 2 day period. If they weren't broke in by this hike, the were soon after.

Although I didn't wear them extensively during the summer months, I did wear them during some fairly extreme midwest summer days. My feet always sweat whether I'm wearing boots or tennis shoes, and they were able to breath fine.

I should also note, that I have been treating these with Danner's shoe care treatment (which is not a mink oil) after washing every 6 weeks or so. I don't work in trenches or in field where they get extreme abuse everyday.

One thing that that many people commented on is how they've had these for a decade before sending them in to get recrafted. After one year of use, I can see how these could easily last that long, with care and maintenance of course.

Bottom line:
Whether you get these or not, most any boot that is in this price range will far outlast most shoddy $100 boots by 3 fold anyway. I learned along time ago to never be cheap on your feet.

Spend a little more - get a whole lot more. You'll never go wrong with Danner. Provided select use of under stockings, used for hunting well into the Winter - regardless of what their ad says. The first step in a Danner, provides a thousand miles of comfort, protection, durability, and years upon years of satisfaction. These boots become old friends in short order.
