I had one of these when I was a child. There are much better air rifles on the market. However, if you are looking for a first gun for a child to learn the art of shooting and gun safety, you couldn't find a better deal. It holds lots of BB's, requires no air cartridges or additional supplies to shoot, and best of all...it's cheap. Don't look for accuracy in this gun. However, accurate enough for "plunking" cans and target shooting at 10 yards or so. It's simply a nice cheap gun for a kid to shoot all day at little cost. I just bought one for my child to learn with...it was a nice trip down memory lane for me. Simply put, pick this one up if you have a young child you want to teach gun safety and shooting skills to, grab a bunch of BB's, tape up the paper targets and stack the tin cans, and have a good time.

Oh...and remember...you'll shoot your eye out kid:)

Exactly what I expected.

It is what it is. Don't buy this expecting to head-shoot squirrels at 30 yards. Great beginner gun to help train kids about the responsibility of gun ownership. A timeless classic.

Great toy

  • Lightweight
  • Pump action

Cons

  • Not powerful

Best Uses

  • Target Shooting

Comments about Daisy 1938 Red Ryder BB Gun:

Great little toy for shooting cans and targets in the yard. Not very powerful. Shot a rabbit about twenty yards away and all it did was sting him. Not powerful enough for hunting. But it's a great toy for the price. I recommend pump action over cartridges if you want to save money. BBs are very cheap too.
