In the wake of the LR-308 winning the same award, the .308 AP4 received the NRA Golden Bullseye Award, honored for bringing .308 firepower to a compact, tactical carbine platform. At the heart of this award-winning rifle is a 16", button-rifled, AP4 contour 4140 chrome-moly steel barrel with a birdcage flash-hider, 6 grooves, and a 1 in 10" right-hand twist. Like all DPMS Panther rifles, the LR-308 AP4 is built around a reliable gas-operated rotating bolt and an 8620 steel bolt carrier. The A3-style flattop upper receiver is thick-walled and extruded from 6066-T6 aluminum, while the lower receiver is milled from a solid billet of 6061-T6 with an integral trigger guard and an aluminum magazine release button. The stock is an AP4 6-position telescoping, fiber-reinforced polymer model and the handguards are a carbine-length, ribbed free float tube. The shell deflector and forward assist are machined as one unit. Detachable carry handle. A2 rear sights and dust cover. Standard AR-15 trigger group.
