Product Description
boss_audio Mechless refers to the new breed of in-dash receivers that omit mechanical playback methods. This head unit cannot play discs, but is instead optimized for iPods and can also use an MP3 player or USB flash drive as its primary music source. Shares features with traditional radios such as AM/FM tuner, front panel auxiliary input, illuminated control buttons, separate bass and treble controls, and RCA outputs. UV-resistant plastic and weatherproof grille. 50 watts x 4 output. Includes wireless remote control, stainless steel mounting hardware, soft-wire AM/FM antenna, 3.5mm-to-3.5mm iPod/MP3 connection cable, and two 6-1/2" dual cone speakers with 50 watts RMS/150 watts peak per speaker.

    I really like the radio being compact and easy to install in a small area. Great sound and easy to install speakers. I really don't have any complaints about the product and the price would be very hard to beat anywhere else! The thumb drive is really handy for ipod. The mp3 and satelite jack is real handy.

    For the price and relatively good sound quality, it is hard to beat. Unit acted flakey in heavy rain, leading me to believe it is not completely weatherproof, however once it dried out, it returned to normal function. Would have appreciated a better mounting bracket/solution (mounted to a 3/4" sheet of marine plywood), however this isn't a deal breaker. iPods are ONLY supported over the AUX input, not over USB!

        I was looking for a unit for my boat , but did not want to spend a lot. My expectations were not high due to the price of this unit, however after receiving it and installing it I was surprised. Very compact, which is nice for marine applications, yet big sound. I used a different antenna so I can't say if the supplied antenna is sufficient. I am certain there are better units on the market, but for the money I would put this up against any and all. Comes with a case for the face plate and a remote control with battery. Speaker wires are not extremely long if you plan on placing your speakers very far from the unit you will need additional wire.

                Unit came as package though mine did not have speaker wires included (packing oversight?). It does come with the dual pigtail plug to connect MP3 devices with the unit. It was very easy to install and worked great-- once I realized that the POWER button is on the far right of the control panel face, and NOT INTEGRATED with the rotary/dial volume knob (typical of most other dash-mounted stereo units). The separate power button works fine, but I'm still not used to powering up a dash-mount unit without the dial knob. The 5 watt fuse indicates that this is not a high quality amp and so it will deliver more THD at higher volumes. I found the volume was sufficiently loud to enjoy and I did not discern any meaningful distortion. It is, after all, a boat stereo. I am very happy with the performance level at this price
