Comments about Benelli Nova Shotgun:

I bought this gun the week after opening day in 2008 with the Realtree APG camo because it was about $30 cheaper than the MAX4 camo at the time. I was browsing in the store and saw it sitting on the shelf, and since I've heard great things about Benelli, I decided to pick it up. It was love at first shoulder. This gun shoulders better than any gun I've ever used. It is worth mentioning that guns shoulder differently for each person, so I highly recommend trying it out first; especially since the stock cannot be modified to fit you--it either fits you great out of the box or it doesn't. Your experience may differ from mine with the shouldering, so absolutely put the gun through the paces before you make a decision (this goes for any gun!) Mine came with a plug and three different chokes. Optional features include the ability to mount a recoil reduction system in the stock (I have not done this so I cannot comment).

Out in the field it didn't disappoint. Due to its proper fit (and a boost in my confidence) the number of ducks I'm bringing home has increased dramatically. Others have complained that the trigger is a bit heavy, but I don't really notice it at all. I have put this gun through all kinds of weather -- rain, snow, mud, sleet, ice, you name it-- and this gun ALWAYS fires. The camo coating and the synthetic stock and forearm prevent this thing from rusting up or showing heavy wear. When it comes time to clean it, you can easily disassemble the entire thing within a minute or two (especially after you get the hang of it). The Nova uses its own parts as tools to aid in the removal of smaller parts, which is great. The gun also has a button on the forearm that allows you to eject the shell that's in the chamber without loading the next one from the magazine, which comes in handy if you want to switch to heavier load for say, geese that are flying in. The safety is on the front of the trigger guard rather than near the back on most other guns. This threw me off a bit at first, but now I absolutely love the location. It feels natural for me to tap it with the front of my finger and then slide back down into the trigger guard. Some people may find that the slight forearm rattle is a con, so it is worth mentioning it as such, but it doesn't detract from the performance or feel of this gun at all.

Worth noting is that it definitely feels heavier than my 870 Express, but I feel it has better balance and swing. It can also shoot 3.5 inch shells if you feel so inclined. It comes with a 5 year warranty from Benelli and if you buy it from Gander, they also tack on an extra year beyond the manufacturer's warranty, which is a nice little extra in my opinion.

Overall I'm totally happy with this gun and if I lost it I would go out and buy another one the same day.
