Comments about Beavertail 27 HP Kohler Long Tail Motor:

I use my beavertail motor, 27 hp koehler, on a 16' john boat to explore, duck hunt and fish shallow water swamps lakes in Florida. It has been places that would have destroyed dozens of outboard motors. Mud, rocks, logs, stumps and heavy vegetation are no problem with it. Do not use these motors around salt water because they are not as resistant as outboards. Never had a problem with the engine. The driveshaft bearings and the red rubber vibration dampener are the weak links in this system. Had a shop bill for $600 worth of labor and parts due to the bearings and shaft going bad. Have been through two of the vibration dampeners which are $30 each and a pain in the butt to replace. If I ever buy another mud motor I will get one with bushings, not bearings. Even with minor failures I have confidance that my Beavertail will always get me out of the swamp. Even with blown bearings and broken vibration dampeneers it keeps on chugging. Yes, I have kept grease on the bearings and I have had discussions with the factory and followed their advice.
