The rod holder kit comes with a surface mount adapter, I had to purchase a gunnel mount adapter
which cost me an extra $5. No big deal, I used the surface mount on my dock.

This product is very useful when trolling or anchoring down. It also keep the rod down low when using it and casting other rods.

                      2. what is the wing nut holding? If the top assembly comes off for storage how does the wing nut secure it to the base?

The wing nut tightens downs on the base witch lockes the holder and the base together. The tighter you get the wing nut the tighter the holder is that is holding your rod.

                      • A:

as you know, first you screw the rod into the holder, at this point it is free to twist in either direction, then you "jam" the wing nut down onto the holder and all is now secure. The technique is called using a "jam" nut
