Product Summary

The Arisaka-designed Type 99 rifle was built for use by the Imperial Japanese Army during World War II. The rifle was produced in seven different arsenals and became the first mass-produced infantry rifle with a chrome-lined bore to ease cleaning, although this feature was abandoned on late-war models. The Type 99 was based on the basic German Mauser with a cock-on-closing action that improved the rate of fire from the standard Mauser cock-on-open design. The rifle's unique safety mechanism is operated by pressing in the large knurled disk at the rear of the bolt with the palm of the hand and rotating it in a 1/8 clockwise turn. The rifle also utilizes a quick-release bolt with a rotating bolt cover. This sporterized rifle features volley sights and a 2-position safety. Its wood and metal are in fair condition and its bore is in good condition.
