      Bought this rod mid summer to replace an old rod that was beginning to show it's age. From the first cast I was thrilled. Feels great, good balance and sensitive. It is a nice light rod, and a solid reel. Retrieve is smooth, and not a bit of play or slop in the spool or handle. Great value for the money.

          overall i have had a fine experience with this rod and reel combo...The rod has a lot of action when hitting on bass or sauger...mainly a panfishing rod but does the trick for the spastic, bigger smallmouth fine...the reel has held up well, its nothing flashy and does tangle occasionally, though for now i'll blame my line on that...overall a great buy...I've broke too many ugly sticks to keep buying them, as well as i never liked the shakespeare stock reels... and i don't see many deals on the zebco ultralights that i used to frequent...therefore, this is the combo for me for now on rivers, and shore fishing...

          [...] I took the rod fishing soon after it showed up. It felt great. Great sensitivity, great feel on the reel, smooth casting, smooth retrieval. I took the rod out again 3 days later. Same thing, everything was great. The next day I went one more time and when I tried to set the hook on the 3rd waleye of the day the rod snapped in half. Took it back to the store and got a different combo.

          Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
