Love ambassadeurs for salt water, we use alot of them and some are extreemly old but still the in the best condition. I picked this one up for mostly fresh water due to my previous luck with similar reels, and I am liking it alot. Do not put much line on it if you are useing light tacle or line, it will be extreamly dificult to cast far. In my opinion these things are the "tanks" of reels and should be passed down for generations. I can't say that about other well known reels in its class.

I got a fantastic price on Gander Mtn. for this reel. I use it for saltwater kayak fishing for Stripers and Blues in MA. It is dollar for dollar the best reel I've used. I switched out the handle for a power handle and am very happy with it. I love the fact it has a clicker and is very smooth casting and reeling. Parts are easy to find and maintenance is straight forward and not difficult. If I could make the reel a little lighter it would be great but it is after all a saltwater reel and I'm not targeting small fish! I forsee owning this reel for many years to come.

I'm a musky guide and these reels have replaced all of the other reels I had, most of which are anywhere from $100 to $250 more in price but are proving to be $100 to $250 less in value. These reels get used and abused in my boat every weekend that the river isn't iced over and they are still going strong. Simple yearly maintence and cleaning is all that is needed. I do replace the bushings on the spool axle with the bearings used in some of the "limited edition" Abu reels and it actually made then cast further and smoother. These reels can not be beaten!!

I bought the "left handed" version of the Record 60 as a spare reel, and to use when I take guests muskie fishing. Its ease of casting and effective anti-backlash system make it an excellent choice for that purpose. I'd say it casts slightly better than my Calcutta. Only time will tell which of the two is more durable. Swedish engineering and construction shine through.

I have 2 Abu Garcia 6500's that are 15 years old. They still work great. I bought 2 Record 50's to replace them for my musky fishing. Wonderful reels, very durable, easy to cast, I'm sure they will last as long as my 6500's, which are now my bass reels!
