It comes equipped with a six-pin centrifugal break and Carbon Matrix Drag System for optimal drag performance. Chemical nickel-coated levelwind system keeps your line flat for better casting. Frame, sideplate, and spool are constructed of lightweight aluminum for strength and corrosion resistance. Durable stainless steel gears provide long-lasting use.           I own several of these reels. I use them for everything fro casting for largemouth and stripers to trolling and pulling alabama rigs to catfishing. I have never had any problems with any of these reels. I also own 4500 and 6500 reels that are used for the same purposes.

            would be a good reel except for the line guide gear. I moved up to the 6600 thinking it would be better but had the same problem. Would not recommend these reels to anyone.

              I bought My first ones of these back in the late 60's by the early 70's they had gone to SS bearings I still have those reels and they work great. It just does not get any better than one of these I use the 4500 and 5500 and 6500 plus even a couple of the 7000. I must have twenty of these reels. When I bought my first ones. They were a little spendy or so I thought. Now after 40years Even though I pay a little more now. I figure they are cheap at twice the price. Still the price is normally about what it was back then so how can I complain. They are the BEST!

                I use these as the primary reels for my guide service when Muskie fishing. I've have some that are 20 yrs old and have thousands of casts on them every summer and they keep going. They work with the smallest bucktail to the largest plastic. I replaced the drag washers on mine as they wore out with after market ones that were smoother than stock.......great reel though.

                    They have no issues with saltwater, I have been surf fishing along the gulf coast with them for over 30 years, I just rinse them off and they keep on going. Every so often I will pull them apart and do a good cleaning or replace a worn out part, these are my favorite reels of all time. I have even taken one offshore fishing for kingfish, it worked! PS..I have a VERY old one that still works, my grandfather gave it to me. I would still be using it today, but figured I should retire it and pass it on to my grandkid when the time is right.
