If I'm going to wear a hat, I don't want it to be ugly. That's especially an issue in colder weather. As winter hats get warmer, they tend to get progressively uglier. The other issue is that when I put one on, I want to leave it on. I don't want to constantly figure out where to put it, especially when I go out. I therefore look for something in winter that I call a "wearing hat."

A "wearing hat" is not a full blown winter hat. It's for times when we go out in the winter, but we're not exclusively outdoors. It's not the warmest hat out there, but it's well balanced. It's warm enough for the amount of time we're typically out. It takes the bite out of the cold and makes it more tolerable. We feel like we've got some insulation between our head and the outside. On the other hand, we can wear it inside in normal room temperatures and we're not overwhelmed in it. We're not sweating and it's still comfortable. We can therefore leave it on and it's like an old friend. Another aspect of a "wearing hat" is style. Some winter styles just look out of place indoors. A wearing hat however, looks like it belongs inside or out.

This is a wearing hat. It's not a heavy winter hat. It's more like what insulation does for our house. It keeps us warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. This hat is stylish enough for general wearing outside a working environment. In fact, I don't wear mine at work. I bought it exclusively for personal use. It's as much about style as it is protection. It's durable, well made, and very comfortable. It's a great general purpose "wearing hat" for winter, summer, or really any time. It will also keep the sun out of your eyes with a visor that's just the right length.

Unless you plan on being in frigid temperatures for an extended period, this hat will work for about anything else. It will take you through many temperature changes and conditions. You won't mind in the least being seen in it! Add to that the reputation of Carhartt quality, and you can't go wrong. I highly recommend it.
