I shoot the 30-06 cal. using Remington 180 PSP, Nothing fancy or expensive. Shot a sub MOA group at the range at 100 yards usung a caldwell rest. All HOLES TOUCHED! I loved the way the gun shoots. I thought with the synthetic stock it could of used a better recoil pad. The magazine was hard to load in the dark. Probaly just need to get used to it. I wish it had a Winchester type safety ,but that is just my preference. I you chalange you to find a new rifle that shoots this well no matter what price right out of the box. The action is also pillar bedded. I don't think they mentioned that.

i bought this gun in june of 2010. i have sent the gun to the factory three times and it still does not work write. its accuracy is the junkiest of any gun i have bought. it can only shoot 2 inch groups at 50 yards and a 2 1/2 at a hundred yards. i was going to use this gun for hunting but after having this product i would not reccomend it.

Comments about Marlin® Model XL7 Centerfire Rifle:

I was not aware of this rifle until I blew my custom rifle up and went to the local gun shop to buy a Remington 700 in 25.06. The employee behind the counter showed me a Marlin XL7 in 25.06 with Realtree camo pattern. The instant I held it in my hands I knew it was THE gun for me. It feels GOOD in my hands. I bought it 3 minutes after I touched it and saved $100s. I still love the Remington brand, but I also LOVE this Marlin XL7.
I am not some fancy professional hunter that makes a living guiding hunters, making DVDs or TV shows. I am a plain ole simple Hunter. Iv hunted deer for 40 years in 7 different states. Iv shot deer with multiple makes and calibers of rifles. This is a GOOD gun, at a GREAT price! Easy to take apart to put back together. Not rust prone (like Remington). It looks GOOD!! It feels GOOD! It shoots GOOD!
I have it topped off with a Leupold VX1, 4-12x40. I shoot factory ammo; Federal Premium 117gr PSP. Sub MOA at 100 yards.
I am not one of the type of hunters/shooters that buys a gun and shoots it 6 times a year. I use my guns. I shoot my guns year round. I have nothing negative to say/write about this gun. Affordable. Dependable. Reliable. And I did not have to take out a 2nd mortgage on the house to buy it.

Comments about Marlin® Model XL7 Centerfire Rifle:

I didn't buy mine from gander mountain but got the same gun plus a scope with it. Great out of the box performance. I love this gun. The great thing about this gun it will put a animal down. The recoil pad takes a good bit of the recoil out so you can handle more power. Its an all around great gun

Comments about Marlin® Model XL7 Centerfire Rifle:

In my opinion, the Marlin X7 is the best rifle one can buy for under $400. Its construction is excellent, its design is very aesthetic, it's very lightweight--there's only one con in my opinion, and that's because it's not available in .223 yet. I highly recommend this rifle.

chris, the rifle comes with a one piece weaver base so weaver style rings are what you need to use. regardless of the manufacturer, "weaver" style are needed. if you put on a scope with a 40mm objective (ex: 3-9x40) then use medium hieght rings. if over 40mm use high height rings. weaver makes a set of rings for $22. good luck in the woods
